East Lake Tohopekaliga is the hidden gem of Central Florida: clearer water than West Toho, a trophy bass reputation to match, and a lot less traffic on it.
It is a big lake, nearly 12,000 acres and about five miles across, and the second largest in Osceola County. St. Cloud sits on the south shore, Narcoossee and Runnymede on the east side, and a lot of the rest is undeveloped. If you are staying in St. Cloud, Narcoossee, Harmony or the east side of Kissimmee, this is your lake.
The other thing East Toho has going for it is easy public access. Osceola County keeps a public ramp on the north shore, so there is no towing and no launch queue at your end. We meet you there with the boat already in the water.
Captain Mike’s tip for East Lake Toho
Take the pontoon if the day is about fishing, nature watching and a sunset cruise, and take the deck boat if anyone wants to get pulled on the tube. East Toho is one of the few lakes we deliver to where both of those work.
Fishing poles, artificial bait, a cooler and the tube all come with the boat. Live bait is worth a call ahead, since the fish camps on this end of the lake sell out.

Easy public access, no trailer
East Lake Toho has public access in Osceola County, which is the reason this lake is so easy to book. There is nothing to tow and no ramp queue at your end: we bring the boat, launch it, fuel it and hand it over at the North Side ramp on Big Bass Road. If you have a dock on the lake we will deliver there instead. For waterfront dining afterwards, Crabby Bill’s on the St. Cloud lakefront is the one everybody heads for.

Bring the kids, bring the rods
East Toho has the grass, the pads and the structure that grow big bass, and water clear enough that the kids can actually see them. Fishing poles, artificial bait, a cooler and the tube come with every rental, along with a Coast Guard approved life jacket for every seat, so a family that has never fished before can still have a real day on the water. Live bait is worth a call ahead before you drive over.
Best trophy bass and clear-water cruising on East Lake Toho
East Lake Toho is just under 12,000 acres, about five miles across and roughly 18 feet at its deepest. It is grassy and full of structure like the rest of the Kissimmee chain, but the water runs clearer, which is why it has the reputation it does with anglers and why a slow lap of the shoreline is worth the trip on its own.

Best months
Spring and autumn are the most productive months here, and the bite is best early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Winter brings the spawn into the shallows; summer still fishes, but go early.
Where to look
Work the vegetation edges, the points and the wind-blown banks. Clear water means the fish see you coming, so give the shallows a wider berth than you would on West Toho.
What to throw
Wild shiners are the local favorite for big fish. Artificials come with the boat, and Texas-rigged plastics, swim jigs and topwater frogs all do work along the grass. Crappie, bluegill and bowfin are all in here too.
License
Anyone 16 or older needs a Florida freshwater fishing license, resident or not. Buy it online before you arrive and keep it on your phone.
Cruising and watersports on East Toho
Idle off the ramp and you have five miles of lake in front of you. The north and west shores are largely undeveloped, so this is a wildlife lake first: osprey and eagles over the open water, herons and cranes in the shallows, alligators on the banks in the cooler months. Keep your distance and they will carry on ignoring you.
Run south and the St. Cloud lakefront comes into view, which is where most groups stop for waterfront dining at Crabby Bill’s before heading back out. This is also one of the lakes where we are happy to pull a tube, so if the group is split between fishing and watersports you can do both in a four hour window. Save the last hour for sunset and let the stereo run.
Which boat suits East Lake Toho?
For East Toho, we recommend the pontoon. It is the right boat for what this lake does best: fishing, nature watching and sunset cruises, with shade over your head and room to move around. Take the deck boat instead if tubing or skiing is the point of the day, because it carries the Turbo Swing tow bar and the power to use it.

East Toho and West Toho are two different lakes
Worth getting straight before you book, because people mix them up. East Lake Toho is the St. Cloud and Narcoossee lake and we hand over at the North Side ramp on Big Bass Road. West Lake Toho is the bigger lake on the Kissimmee lakefront, closer to Disney, and we hand over at the Kissimmee Marina. Each rental is set up for the lake you book, so tell us which one you want when you get in touch.
Who drives, and when we start
Captain Mike, USCG licensed
If you drive, you can have the maximum safe capacity. On East Lake Toho, West Lake Toho and the St. Johns River, Coast Guard rules only allow 6 passengers if Captain Mike is hired to drive. Hiring him is $150 for the first four hours, then $25 an hour.

Rates and booking
One flat price covers delivery, launch and pickup. The pontoon starts at $450 and the deck boat at $550 for a four hour minimum, then $50 an hour after that. Eight hours is $650 on the pontoon and $750 on the deck boat. Fuel and Florida sales tax are already in the number, so nothing gets added at the ramp.

East Lake Toho questions we get asked
Is East Lake Toho better than West Lake Toho?
Different, not better. East Toho has clearer water, less boat traffic and a trophy bass reputation of its own, and it is the closer lake if you are staying in St. Cloud or Narcoossee. West Toho is bigger, closer to Disney, and the one with the tournament history. If your day includes tubing, East Toho is the one to pick.
Do I need a fishing license on East Lake Toho?
Yes if you are 16 or older, whether you live in Florida or not. It is a freshwater license, sold online through the state’s Go Outdoors Florida site and by local license agents. A day or three-day non-resident license is enough for a rental. Kids under 16 fish free.
Can we tube and swim on East Lake Toho?
Tubing, yes. Take the deck boat, which carries a Turbo Swing tow bar and a 200hp Mercury, and the tube comes with it at no extra cost. Pull it out in the open water away from the grass lines and docks, and keep a spotter on the rider. This is still a Florida lake with alligators in it, so we would not plan a swimming day here the way you would on Lake Maitland.
Where do we get live bait?
Wild shiners are the local favorite and the fish camps on this end of the lake sell live bait, but ring ahead because it sells out. Artificial bait and the fishing poles are already aboard, so bait is the only thing you might need to buy.
Are life jackets on the boat?
Yes, a Coast Guard approved jacket for every seat, sized for adults and kids. Florida law says children under six wear theirs the whole time the boat is moving, and anyone on the tube wears one too, so tell us how many little ones are coming when you book and we will have the right sizes aboard.
What should we bring?
Sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and more water than you think. Snacks and drinks for the cooler. Your fishing license on your phone, and a towel for the fish photos. The boat already has the cooler, rods, artificial bait and the tube.
Is there a bathroom on the boat?
No, neither boat has a head. Sort that out before you launch, and if you are out for eight hours with kids, plan a mid-day stop at the St. Cloud lakefront, which is a straightforward run down the lake and has restaurants and restrooms.
Can we run the canal across to West Lake Toho?
Canal 31, the St. Cloud canal, does link the two lakes, but each rental is set up for the lake you book and a crossing would eat most of your four hours. If West Toho is the lake you want, we deliver there separately and hand over at the Kissimmee Marina instead.
